New Pilgrims – New Lithuania
In 1993, during a religious pilgrimage to the Hill of Crosses in northern Lithuania, a group of young believers formed an organization to preserve the Lithuanian culture and Christian traditions. The organization originally named “New Pilgrims” later renamed itself “New Lithuania”. During the past twenty years, the members of New Lithuania have organized many events, meetings, concerts, and publications.
The organization has also helped to restore and renovate Lithuanian churches. Every year, on the second Sunday of July, the New Pilgrims meet in the Hill of Crosses. The Hill of Crosses is a pilgrimage site located about thirteen kilometers north of Šiauliai, in northern Lithuania. Over the years, the hill has become a site of international pilgrimage. The pilgrims come from all over the world to visit the Hill of Crosses.
